Masorti Liverpool Community is a warm, welcoming, and inclusive Jewish community in Liverpool.
What began as a small group meeting in members’ homes has grown into a vibrant network of individuals and families seeking a meaningful, traditional, and egalitarian Jewish life.
Our services follow Masorti tradition, blending familiar liturgy with well-loved melodies that encourage everyone to participate. Whether you’re leading, reading, singing, or simply joining in, there’s a place for you.
We typically meet once a month for services and community events, usually in the Woolton Village area. Our intimate home-based gatherings create a friendly atmosphere where real connections can form.
We warmly welcome people of all backgrounds, experiences, and levels of Jewish knowledge — from the highly observant to those just starting out. Everyone is met with openness and respect.
As our community continues to grow, we’d love to welcome you. Whether you’d like to join us occasionally or play a more active role, please get in touch.
Masorti Liverpool is more than a place to pray — it’s a place to belong, to learn, and to build Jewish life together.
What is Masorti Judaism?
Masorti Judaism sits within the broad spectrum of Jewish tradition, often resisting simple definition. Like other movements, it shares core beliefs while offering its own distinctive approach.
Masorti Jews believe in God, the covenant between God and the people of Israel, and the responsibility to live according to Jewish law (halacha), as developed through the Torah, Mishnah, Talmud, and later rabbinic teachings.
What defines Masorti Judaism is its engagement with modern scholarship. We take seriously the insights of history, archaeology, and academic study, using them to deepen and inform our understanding of tradition rather than ignoring them.
Where tensions arise between tradition and modern knowledge, we seek thoughtful interpretation that honours both. In this way, Masorti Judaism remains rooted in tradition while responding honestly to contemporary understanding.
What is Masorti’s relationship with Israel?
Masorti Judaism believes in the centrality of Israel in Jewish life and strives to build a meaningful relationship with the people and land of Israel. They also recognise the legitimacy of a wide range of views about contemporary Israeli society and politics. Masorti Judaism is part of Mercaz, the worldwide Masorti Zionist organisation and have a strong connection with the Israeli Masorti movement.
